The Problem
|
|
The San Diego Workforce Partnership has a number of excellent databases describing the locations of major employers and jobseekers in the county. Although the location aspect of their information is vital to effective decisionmaking, their business systems were not designed to support visualization of the spatial aspect of the data. SDWP needed a quick, cost effective way to get an integrated view of their organization’s data in an easy-to-use web-accessible format.

The Solution
|
|
Placebase used its data import tools to rapidly pull SDWP datasets into its Pushpin™ application framework. From there we worked with SDWP staff to customize the Pushpin interface to SDWP needs, and to bring in additional datasets. The site includes password-protected access for more sensitive information as well as a public version, all available via SDWP’s website.

SDWP’s implementation used Placebase’s Pushpin framework to achieve rapid development of their online GIS interface. Pushpin comes in both Windows and Linux varieties, in this case the SDWP chose Windows. Underlying technologies are:
- ESRI ArcIMS and ArcSDE
- Windows Advanced Server
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Apache Tomcat
- Java, JSP
